An education session on blogs for this blondie

I am aware I never update this.  I read so many articles, blogs, textbooks, books, Facebook posts, emails for work and personal, etc that I should have enough ammo to use in creating my own blog posts, but instead I write emails, Facebook posts, and school assignments.  It comes down to a matter of priority and I simply have not made this a priority.
Blogging is still a new idea to me.  I've heard about it for years.  How long ago was it that blogs first started being seen on the web?  I couldn't understand why this would be so interesting or how I could use it to my advantage.  I have little interest in following what is happeneing in other people's lives since I have so much happening in mine that I need to try to keep up with.  However, I have been finding it a peaceful hobby, to discover new bloggers and delve into a few of their posts which relate to topics I am interested in.
What I would like to know, now that I've found all these blogs, how do I keep track of them?  For the most part, I don't think to check them unless they share their new post on Facebook.  I've subscribed to many, but don't receive anything in my email.  How do I receive updates?  Like I said, this is still a relatively new concept for me and I don't know what I'm doing to even know what I'm doing wrong!
